FC 26 New Icons Review: Top Picks and Hidden Gems

EA Sports’ FC 26 is just around the corner, and with it comes the highly anticipated addition of 12 new Icon players. Covering superstars from various eras, these Icons bring significant updates to their stats and PlayStyles, which will undoubtedly shape squad building and meta strategies. Here’s a full overview of these new additions.

As the cover star of FC 26, Zlatan Ibrahimović has received a massive boost from EA and stands out as the crown jewel of this Icon set. With a towering 195cm frame, 90 Physicality, and 86 Pace, he becomes a fearsome presence in the box. Even more impressive is his 92 Dribbling, turning him into what can only be described as “a target man who can dance in the penalty area.” That said, his large model may come with a learning curve and won’t suit every player—but in skilled hands, he’ll be nothing short of deadly.

A legend of the women’s game, Alex Morgan brings a well-rounded profile to FC 26. With two World Cups, an Olympic gold, and a Champions League title to her name, she boasts a balanced in-game model (168cm), a natural 5-star Weak Foot, and excellent Pace, Dribbling, Shooting, and Physical stats—all enhanced by the Finesse Shot trait. More agile and versatile than Ibrahimović, she’s expected to be one of the most popular top-tier forwards at launch.

The midfield sees two outstanding additions: Andrés Iniesta and Toni Kroos. Iniesta, the heartbeat of Barcelona and Spain’s golden generation, is a passing masterclass. Though his small stature may be a drawback, his defensive awareness is serviceable, making him better suited to an attacking midfield role—especially with the “Incisive Pass” PlayStyle+ turning him into a central playmaker.

Toni Kroos is arguably the most surprising inclusion in this Icon release. Once mockingly called the “King of Wheelchairs” for his painfully low pace, his Icon card now boasts 75 Pace—effectively “fitting a rocket to his wheelchair.” Combined with elite passing stats and a 5-star Weak Foot, he is positioned as the perfect deep-lying playmaker and is likely to be one of FC 26’s standout performers.

Other Icons worth noting include Francesco Totti, who received a major pace upgrade (87) and looks ideal at ST or CAM with his exceptional playmaking; Cha Bum-Kun, an agile Asian legend with 87 Dribbling and the Rapid PlayStyle+; and Oliver Kahn, a goalkeeper known for lightning reflexes and strong low-shot saves—a particularly valuable chem provider early in the game cycle. Also keep an eye on CZ (likely Célia Šašić), a versatile attacker with strong shooting and passing, valuable Brazilian links, and potential to be a top-tier CAM worth over a million FUT coins.

A few Icons, however, should be approached with caution. Marcelo remains a fan favorite, but his attacking strength isn’t matched by his defense (84 Defending, 77 Physicality), and his TikiTaka PlayStyle+ feels underwhelming. Giorgio Chiellini feels clunky on the ball (65 Dribbling) and his Jockey PlayStyle+ isn’t especially meta—he may need future promo cards to become viable. Steffi Jones, at only 173cm, is simply too short for a central defender, making her base card likely obsolete at launch. Her Relentless PlayStyle+ won’t be active until a future update, further limiting her appeal.

In summary, the 12 new Icons in FC 26 offer a mix of playstyles and power levels. Ibrahimović, Morgan, and Kroos are clear top-tier picks, while Totti, Kahn, and Cha Bum-Kun offer strong practical value. When building your ultimate squad, aim first for these stronger, meta-friendly Icons.

Good luck in FC 26–may your packs be full of Icons!
